Welcome to Radio Sunlight
Open meetings and updates
If you are interested in finding out more about our community radio FM project, keep up to date by visiting this site or send us an email with a request for information. info(at)radiosunlight.org.uk
We have frequent open meetings where local people join radio volunteers to:
- get to know each other,
- hear recent developments on the project,
- discuss ideas,
- listen to a radio specialist from another organisation.
At the last meeting BBC Journalist and media advisor Clive Lawrence was our guest speaker. He broadened our understanding of content style and emphasised the value of local journalism for our listeners.
We hope that we will soon become a station where volunteers will develop an interest in providing local information and encourage debate.
Community radio stations are more likely to survive if they listen to the needs, interests and desires of listeners. We intend to continue regular open meetings to build awareness and stronger links with listeners and people who wish to be involved.
Please fill out our questionnaire on the following link to help us meet your expectations.

Latest update on the radio project
There are two main branches to our community radio project, the drive towards FM, and the evolution of processes and skills within the team. We want to broadcast interesting and relevant content, so people will enjoy listening.
Sunlight Development Trust has employed a radio project manager. We have a strong team of staff and volunteers who are preparing for FM transmission. OFCOM has just given us a frequency and we hope to start broadcasting early in 2012.
We have launched a new volunteer policy which is an exciting step forward. This will allow new volunteers to get involved to represent community interests. We are currently training existing and new volunteers to improve skills and build greater understanding of the high standards expected by listeners and Ofcom.
Radio Sunlight volunteers are becoming more capable of representing what is happening in our community via video, podcasts or live radio. We are gradually linking with the community to build pathways to create interesting programmes. We also have regular events, so keep your eye on our website.
We hope to attract new people to get involved with this project. Have a look at the join in page if for details of how you can participate.
Background on the community radio proect?
Community radio is all about the community. We are developing ways for Medway people to have a voice and let people know what is happening in their neighbourhood.
We hope to gradually introduce practical ways for you to get involved if you are interested in connecting with this community radio project. You could listen to find a programme you enjoy. You might be able to become a team volunteer, you could provide information by contacting us or be a guest on a show. You may be able to make a recording about your community for us to edit.
Radio Sunlight has been evolving through ideas from local people. We have a great challenge ahead, but the potential benefit for local people makes it more than worth the effort. If you have any ideas, please get in touch.
To fulfill the definition of a community station, Radio Sunlight needs to be connected to the local community and develop programmes delivered by and tailored for local listeners. If you have any inquiries, or ideas don’t hesitate to send an email to: feedback(at)radiosunlight.org.uk
